Getting more out of LinkedIn

Forbes: “22 Linked In Secrets…”

By In News On March 21, 2014

Forbes Contributor William Arruda’s list of “22 LinkedIn Secrets LinkedIn Won’t Tell You” is pretty helpful in terms of building a good LinkedIn profile and exploiting some of the networking opportunities available.

LinkedIn is a great resource and but can be overwhelming for beginners. Building and managing a profile is great but what do you do with it once you’re done?

As I wrote in Modern Job Search:

“It is important to have a specific goal or set of goals for using LinkedIn. For example, my goal for LinkedIn is simple: I want to know as many of the most qualified Supply Chain Management professionals at a variety of levels in manufacturing and energy production as possible. I want to be able to contact potential candidates about job opportunities or potential hiring managers about marketable candidates.”

Having a goal for how I want to use LinkedIn helps me focus and make the most of the groups I join, the contacts I invite into my network and the research I do. Without a goal, developing your network on LinkedIn and figuring out how to use it can be confusing or lead to information overload.

What’s your LinkedIn goal? Do you know how to figure it out? How is it related to your overall job search?
